DIY Kit v2

So I got a DIY Kit v2 a lil while back. The ohm/voltmeter in it never seems to work quite right? If I manage to get an ohm reading it's only for a second before it flicking off to an error reading (I'm guessing the shorted msg). Is there something I need to do to make this work? Or am I SOL?

Also, was wondering about upgrading to the newer v3 kits, is that an option? Or possibly getting the case for the jig bits + remaining parts to the jig I didn't receive, along with the newer scissors (the ones in the v1 kit are like kindergarten safety scissors, they hardly cut a thing).
